The Slaves That Time Forgot

By John Martin

They came as slaves; vast human cargo transported on tall British ships bound for the Americas. They were shipped by the hundreds of thousands and included men, women, and even the youngest of children.

Whenever they rebelled or even disobeyed an order, they were punished in the harshest ways. Slave owners would hang their human property by their hands and set their hands or feet on fire as one form of punishment. They were burned alive and had their heads placed on pikes in the marketplace as a warning to other captives.

We don’t really need to go through all of the gory details, do we? After all, we know all too well the atrocities of the African slave trade. But, are we talking about African slavery?

King James II and Charles I led a continued effort to enslave the Irish. Britain’s famed Oliver Cromwell furthered this practice of dehumanizing one’s next door neighbor.

The Irish slave trade began when James II sold 30,000 Irish prisoners as slaves to the New World. His Proclamation of 1625 required Irish political prisoners be sent overseas and sold to English settlers in the West Indies. By the mid 1600s, the Irish were the main slaves sold to Antigua and Montserrat. At that time, 70% of the total population of Montserrat were Irish slaves.

Ireland quickly became the biggest source of human livestock for English merchants. The majority of the early slaves to the New World were actually white.

From 1641 to 1652, over 500,000 Irish were killed by the English and another 300,000 were sold as slaves. Ireland’s population fell from about 1,500,000 to 600,000 in one single decade. Families were ripped apart as the British did not allow Irish dads to take their wives and children with them across the Atlantic. This led to a helpless population of homeless women and children. Britain’s solution was to auction them off as well.

During the 1650s, over 100,000 Irish children between the ages of 10 and 14 were taken from their parents and sold as slaves in the West Indies, Virginia and New England. In this decade, 52,000 Irish (mostly women and children) were sold to Barbados and Virginia. Another 30,000 Irish men and women were also transported and sold to the highest bidder. In 1656, Cromwell ordered that 2000 Irish children be taken to Jamaica and sold as slaves to English settlers.

Many people today will avoid calling the Irish slaves what they truly were: Slaves. They’ll come up with terms like “Indentured Servants” to describe what occurred to the Irish. However, in most cases from the 17th and 18th centuries, Irish slaves were nothing more than human cattle.

As an example, the African slave trade was just beginning during this same period. It is well recorded that African slaves, not tainted with the stain of the hated Catholic theology and more expensive to purchase, were often treated far better than their Irish counterparts.

African slaves were very expensive during the late 1600s (50 Sterling). Irish slaves came cheap (no more than 5 Sterling). If a planter whipped or branded or beat an Irish slave to death, it was never a crime. A death was a monetary setback, but far cheaper than killing a more expensive African.

The English masters quickly began breeding the Irish women for both their own personal pleasure and for greater profit. Children of slaves were themselves slaves, which increased the size of the master’s free workforce. Even if an Irish woman somehow obtained her freedom, her kids would remain slaves of her master. Thus, Irish moms, even with this new found emancipation, would seldom abandon their kids and would remain in servitude.

In time, the English thought of a better way to use these women (in many cases, girls as young as 12) to increase their market share: The settlers began to breed Irish women and girls with African men to produce slaves with a distinct complexion. These new “mulatto” slaves brought a higher price than Irish livestock and, likewise, enabled the settlers to save money rather than purchase new African slaves.

This practice of interbreeding Irish females with African men went on for several decades and was so widespread that, in 1681, legislation was passed “forbidding the practice of mating Irish slave women to African slave men for the purpose of producing slaves for sale.” In short, it was stopped only because it interfered with the profits of a large slave transport company.

England continued to ship tens of thousands of Irish slaves for more than a century. Records state that, after the 1798 Irish Rebellion, thousands of Irish slaves were sold to both America and Australia.

There were horrible abuses of both African and Irish captives. One British ship even dumped 1,302 slaves into the Atlantic Ocean so that the crew would have plenty of food to eat.

There is little question that the Irish experienced the horrors of slavery as much (if not more in the 17th Century) as the Africans did. There is, also, very little question that those brown, tanned faces you witness in your travels to the West Indies are very likely a combination of African and Irish ancestry.

In 1839, Britain finally decided on it’s own to end it’s participation in Satan’s highway to hell and stopped transporting slaves. While their decision did not stop pirates from doing what they desired, the new law slowly concluded THIS chapter of nightmarish Irish misery.

But, if anyone, black or white, believes that slavery was only an African experience, then they’ve got it completely wrong.

Irish slavery is a subject worth remembering, not erasing from our memories. But, where are our public (and PRIVATE) schools???? Where are the history books? Why is it so seldom discussed?

Do the memories of hundreds of thousands of Irish victims merit more than a mention from an unknown writer? Or is their story to be one that their English pirates intended: To (unlike the African book) have the Irish story utterly and completely disappear as if it never happened.

None of the Irish victims ever made it back to their homeland to describe their ordeal. These are the lost slaves; the ones that time and biased history books conveniently forgot.

  1. “Most of the slaves were transported to the Caribbean, not the USA. The large majority of the black population in the USA are indigenous, they weren’t brought here on ships, they were here already.”

Please precise your thought…Didn’t get that one…

I read Jack D forbes (himself a native indian) ” Africans and Native Americans” :

    – There was indeed black (negro/moreno) and brown native indians (Loros) all over North and South america , and in the caribbeans (Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba, Borinquen) where they were described as Loros (or Browns) by the spanish terrorists

    BUT

    – The black slaves mitigated with the Indian slaves all over the cariibean and the Continent : Gonzalo Aguirre Beltran , José Antonio Saco , Carlos Esteban deive , Jack D Forbes himself to name but a few are very positive about that

In Haiti the black ladinos mitigated with Indian/Tainos as soon as 1503, Nicolas Ovando asked to the spanish authorities to stop the importing of black ladinos.

Some Moors are saying on the net that they’re native indians LOOLLLLL, in Jack D Forbes’ book we can find the most exhaustive source about the definition of a MOOR in European languages (Spanish, French, Portuguese, Dutch) during the Middle Age .

100 % of them meant a black man

    – Oexmelin the French white slave (indeed desguised into Indentured servants) says in his memories that he found sons of Indians and Blacks in the native island called AYITI
( actual Dominican republic, and Haiti) …The same reason explained the majority of Afro-Americans having native indian ancestry not because they’re true native indians.

    1. Actually, they do have black people that are native to this land. You can tell the difference between an American Black vs a Caribbean Black, & a native Central & South American Black. They are Aboriginal Black people.

How can all of the continents in the world have Aboriginal black people, except the USA?

They had black native people on this continent long before Columbus ever set foot on these shores. Look at Dominicans, Brazilians, Black Mexicans, Black Peruvians, & you be the judge.

We have been brainwashed all of these years to believe that they Transported 100 Million People over the course of 300-400 years but it does not add up.

What are the other Black nations around the world, besides in the continent of Africa ?

Let’s see: India(which was a part of Ethiopia In the ancient days, which is why Indians & Ethiopians look similar) , Thailand, Fiji, Hawaii, New Zealand(Maoris and other people) , Cook Islands , Hawaii, Indonesia, Guam, American Samoa, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and many other countries in the Pacific Ocean that I can’t name right now.

Pretty much everyone around the world is Black. If you have melanin, you are considered Black.

That’s the reason why they colonized, indoctrinated, & enslaved you & all of the other Black nations around the world.

  2. For the 100 Millions it’s a rough estimation of the African victims of the slave trade : Died and the forced deported

    – The deaths on the slave ships : revolts, suicides, slaves dropped on the seas to get the insurance or to avoid the British sea patrols ( in 19th century), 30 to 50 % of the slaves died in the ships ==> “Slave ships and Slaving ” by Francis Dow

    – The deaths on the slave plantations : mistreatments (tortures) , overworked, diseases, abortions

    – In the USA the masters mingled so much with the slaves that Octorrons, Quadroons were sold in the slave markets, some being blonds with blue eyes ( many children were kidnapped and solf as negroes slaves) : The Forgotten Cause of the Civil War: A New Look at the Slavery Issue by Lawrence R. Tenzer (1997)

    – All the collateral deaths in africa to hunt down the slaves….For 400 years…I’m sure that 100 Millions of dead africans during that period is not overestimated

    1. They exaggerated the numbers to make us seem helpless. Marcus Garvey wanted to send all black people in the west back to Africa, but he did not succeed in doing so & it happened for a reason. He did not realize that the majority of black people in the west were already here.

As I said before, the majority of the slaves were shipped to the Caribbean, not the United States.

The Black people that were already here were captured & classified as Africans, Negroes, & Mulattoes(even though a lot of these so called mulattoes were actually East Indians or other black groups not just the classical stereotypical Negro type ) & then sold into slavery. We all were not brought here on ships!

Ever wonder why Caribbeans & African Americans can’t get along? Because we are not all the same people!

watch this video, it is a song about how the Europeans stole land from the Indigenous Moorish people http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HwoubrvB8A&feature=player_embedded

  3. If you believe the lie that Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas, & that no other settlers & or groups came before him, than you are a fool to do so.

When I say that a lot of the people were already here, I don’t mean just aboriginal Indigenous black people, I mean other black settlers from all corners of the globe were already here & settled here.

They made it seem like Black people had no history prior to slavery, & that we were sold off by our own people, & that hundreds of millions of us were brought to the Americas on Slave Ships, but the truth is now being revealed that there were indeed other black groups in the Americas prior to slavery.

  4. You’re not teaching nothing new here but mainly falsehood

    1. Some Natives Indians were blacks (california) , browns, light skinned , whites

    – Jack D Forbes
    – Armand de Quatrefages
    – The spanish conquistadores who saw them with their own eyes : Ivan Van Sertima

    2. Colombus never discovered America ( who said that ?)

    – Ivan Van sertima (1976)
    – Leo Wiener
    – Gonzalo Aguirre Beltran
    – Flora Shaw
    – Dr Hakim quick etc

Colombus sailors were moors ( Dr Abu Ameenah Bilial Philips) and africans were already there as told by the natives haitians to the spanish conquistadores…Leo Wiener and Flora Shows said that many native indians customs (aztecs) were also found in west Africa among the mandigos

    3. Dominicans and Puerto Ricans

I know Puerto Rico , the Dominican Republic , & Cuba : you can’t find ONE TRUE native down there.

Spanish destroyed them and were obliged to hunt down slaves in the bahamas, and in America (North and south) to replace the chattel slaves in these countries:

    – José Antonio Saco
    – Jack D Forbes
    – Carlos Esteban Deive
    – Luiz Diaz Soler

In these islands Natives and Africans mixed at the beginning of the slave trade : Enriquillo the Taino chief had as soon as 1519 , 300 hundreds black maroons in his army.

It’s the Baoruco region and the black dominican beauty Ruth Ocumarez is the best living proof of the mixing between Black and Tainos ( see her in the wyclef jean clip)

In puerto Rico they raised together ( with the Woloffs) in 1527 to destroy the sapnish. The black conquistadore Pedro Mexia married the Indian caicica names Yuisa, later called Luisa. Loiza town (named according to Luiza) in actual PR is full of african descendents.

Carlos esteban deive says that all the customs of the ancient tainos has been preserved by the blacks maroons… This is why you have many blacks in the Dominican republic with indian names and Indian ancestry : Yomilis, Aracalis, Yurilis etc

BUT Carlos esteban Deive, Tolentino Dipp, Blas Jimenez , Carlos Larrazabal Blanco will tell you that at least 80 % of Dominicans have senegambians/ nigerian (the tambora used in Merengue is from Nigeria) / and BANTU ( CONGO/ANGOLA) ancestry. Dominicans have STRONG bantu features…And I know very well this country : samana, puerto plata, la romana, santo domingo, santiago etc

    4. Most blacks in the USA are africans childs

Now you must taking people for fools when you say that you guys are Natives????

After Brazil who absorbed 40 % of the slave trade supply, the USA received more african slaves than any caribbean country…

Haiti had 400000 to 500000 slaves in 1791, the biggest slave population in the caribbean. In the USA there was millions of slaves.

    – JA Rogers in “Africa Gift to America” will give you the capital worth of the slaves in USA
    – Lawrence R. Tenzer and John R Spears will tell; you how the American slave traders smuggled the slaves from CUBA and BRAZIL…
    – John R Spears will describe you how some slave traders in the south specialized in slave breeding….
    – Africans in the US lost their African heritage : forbidden to speak African languages / practise african religion etc ( any child who spoke African language was killed) : but africa is in your catholicism, your music (funk, soul, BLUES, RAP etc) , your food and last but not least your DNA…

When the slave traders in the US did not have choice save the native Indians they exchanged them for Black Slaves in Haiti or Santo Domingo : see Barabara Olexer and Allan Gallay…

Many Afro – Americans have native indian ancestry but they’re not native indians…

Some corrupted Indian tribes had black slaves, others refused and took them as brothers/ fighters/ husbands/ wives like the Seminoles… see William Lorentz katz

    In Brazil Palmeiras Maroon republic had been destroyed by Portuguese helped by Native Indians;

Enriquillo in Haiti/Hispaniola betrayed his black and native indians fighters… In Hispaniola the spanish masters gave the whip and the key postions (overseers, technicals for sugar production etc) to Blacks and they commanded the Indians : divide to rule

Some black conquitadores were encomenderos like Juan valiente who had Indian slaves…

In Mexico , black and indians married together ( Gonzalo Aguirre Beltran / Richard price) ==> It’s true all over the new world because there were not enough african women…(See Richar price : Maroon Societies)

Wesley Snipes and Michael Jordan are native indians ???? LOL straight from west Africa !!!

Wesley snipes and Tyrese Gibson have the senegalese phenotype…

Stop bullshitting the masses…If you’re guru teaches you bullshit you should keep for you ( and check first by your own)…Now we wonder why they laugh at us…

I will convinced if those uncle toms calling themselves native Indians will present their DNA test showing 100 % of Native Indian ancestry (then I’ll apologize and call myself a a fool with pleasure) ….It will happened the day a donkey will fly in the air…Just do the test and post the results…Even Hakim Bey himlself is not native, his phenotype is straight from Africa if he is Truhful let him post and reveal his DNA ancestry test…

  5. DNA tests don’t mean shit. The Human Genome Project was a failure. Do you really believe that they could transport 100 Million black people across the Atlantic Ocean in 300 years? Wake the fuck up!

They duped you into thinking that every so-called black person in the west was brought here on slave ships! The maximum amount a Slave ship could hold is 400. How the fuck could they transport thousands on one ship?

I had someone tell me that he visited Africa & that Africans don’t like black people from the west. He told me that “we’re not Africans” & that they hate us, & that we are not the same people. He said that they are Hamites.

Yes, they did have slaves that were transported to the USA, but not the number that they have been claiming for all of these years.

I did not mean to say that every black person in the US was Indigenous, but what i really meant is the settlers from Africa & elsewhere that were already here became slaves.

People need to wake the fuck up & do some more research. The Europeans Colonized almost every black nation on the face of the earth, & reduced them to third world status.

The Majority of the world is black, & they lied about the numbers of slaves bought from Africa. They labeled anyone with African features as African, even though people all around the world have those same exact features, not just in Africa.

  6. Now you’re getting rude :), you have to keep your temper and read properly, I said that VICTIMS of slavery could have reached 100 Million during these 400 years (average life of a slave was 7 YEARS…) : LIVE and DEAD ( in the sea, in the plantations, in AFRICA)

    My points are these:

    1. There were native or aboriginal (Don’t like this word) black/ browns Indians in America (North, Central, South) and the Carribeans. William Loren Katz gives some pictures of them in his book “Black Indians : Those of Paraguay (P4) and California (P134)

    – He also shows picture of native Indian women married with black men (John Taylor) P181 to 183 and these natives’ Indian women really don’t look black….
    – Now you have to show the statistics of the Native Black Indians in North America , may be we could believe your bullshit…

    2. These Indians were not imported from Africa, but many of them finished as slaves, and some africans already reached the new world before colombus the thieve / slaver / Fake sailor

    – José Antonio Saco in his book “Historia de la raza Africana” says that Africans or Blacks were already there (page 75 to 78 ) before the spanish or conquistadores

    4. But now somebody has to proove that these native black indians and africans outnumbered those kinapped in Africa…: I can’t believe that bullshit…

    5. Africa received that Indian blood too because Tainos slaves were sold to Spain and Africa (Cabo Verde, along senegal). When the Dutch were kicked out from Brazil they went to Africa with their native Indian soldiers/allies to capture Angola

    – Jack D Forbes
    – J A Rogers

    6. Africa is the only continent where the population DID NOT INCREASE from the 15th to the 19th century…Louise Marie DIOP-MAES the wife of the late Cheikh Anta DIOP wrote a book about that period : “Afrique Noire Démographique, Sol et Histoire” …These devils even went to live in Africa to organize the slave raidings and prepare the slaves to the new world plantations. Like the spanish slave trader Pedro Blanco…

    7. I’m myself African (Fulani/ Woloff) and stop saying bullshit about something your heard off…In west africa you have people who have the same features than east africans : like Senegalese and Soudanese, and You can’t see any difference between a Fulani (West Africa) and a Somali (East Africa) cause we’re from the same roots…But with all honesty some of us are also ignorants…

We have to be careful about what we’re teaching. It is true that among the blacks living in the middle east many of them are natives and not slaves ( arabia, yemen, palestine, syria, irak etc) and they represent the biggest part… But you can convince me about the US Brothers, Hakim Bey’s features are straight from Africa…

Melanesians are blacks ( Adamans Islands , Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, Native Australians, Agtas of the Philippines etc) and are not slaves 100 % agree. There is also many blacks in India ( the biggest proportion of the population) , Sri Lanka (Tamouls), Singapore , Indonesia (new guinea not so far…) 100% agree…But those saying that “you’re from here” meaning you’re native indians must take you for dumb fools…

Before spreading these lies do your research first, cause some people are doing their research for themselves and don’t brag on the net…

  7. Why do most whites get upset when African slavery is discussed, maybe its not about reperations. It could be we want to know our ancestors language or there culture before they were taught english. Maybe we just want to know if they practice a religion or had a religion that they worshipped.Maybe we just want to know about our bloodline.97% of whites can trace their ancestrial lineage,African Americans cant.So why is defence when this subject is expressed, a white person will say you need to move on,or you are playing the race card .Why they want say i will help you trace your heratige back to your bloodline?these people really need to help us in this matter because we dont know, and would like to find out our heritage African culture.
