Lucius Septimius Bassianus (April 4, 188 – April 8, 217), commonly known as Caracalla, was a Black Roman Emperor who ruled from 211 to 217.
Caracalla was the eldest son of Septimius Severus, the first black African-born Emperor of Rome. But before Septimius Severus, there had been other Roman-born black Emperors of Rome. This story of the other black emperors of Rome will be explored in another write-up, but for now we focus on Caracalla.
Unlike his father Septimius Severus, Caracalla was born and raised in Italy. After the death of his father, he ruled jointly with his younger brother Geta until the latter’s death in 211.
Caracalla’s reign was notable for the Constitutio Antoniniana, granting Roman citizenship to freemen throughout the Roman Empire. That act laid a foundation for a peaceful multi-ethnic, multi-cultural Empire that Rome was to become.
Caracalla was mean towards the military incursions of the Goths, the Parthians and the Tartars, and he took brutal and extreme steps to suppress those invaders from Turkemenistan that were sorely troubling the cohesion of the Roman state.
A modern-day British historian Edward Gibbon, a descendant of the Goths, referred to him as, “the common enemy of mankind” because of the massacres he authorized in various parts of the empire.
In AD 213, Caracalla went north to the German frontier and subdued the Alamanni tribesmen who were causing trouble in the Agri Decumates. Due to that feat the Senate conferred upon him the title of “Germanicus Maximus”.
In AD 216, Caracalla took on the Parthians, a related tribe of the Goths, (the Parthians are the ancestors of the modern day Farsi-Iranians) who were causing problems on the southernmost flank of the empire. He tricked the Parthians into believing that he accepted a marriage and peace proposal, but then launched a series of blistering attacks on the Parthians when their guards were down. The thereafter ongoing conflict and skirmishes became known as the Parthian war of Caracalla.
The baths of Caracalla were the largest public baths ever built in ancient Rome. To put it in historical perspective, the central room of the baths was larger than St. Peter’s Basilica. It could easily accommodate over 2,000 Roman citizens. The bath house opened in 216, complete with libraries, private rooms and outdoor tracks. Caracalla ordered the building of those baths that are named in his honour.
Caracalla was assasinated by his body-guard while travelling from Edessa to continue the war against Parthian. He died on April 8, AD 217.
It is important that Africans should remember and celebrate Caracalla and his family line, i.e. the Severan Dynasty, because as black Africans, they were us and we are them.
By the dint of their heritage, they were part of our legacy, and their attainments represented part of our unfolding tale of greatness, of towering historical achievements, of courage, regency and inimitable genius.
The descendants of the Goths who conquered Rome, and now control historical narratives, would want you to believe that they were the real Romans. Through centuries of selective narration and faking of historical artefacts, they have largely succeeded in hiding the central role of the Africans in the defunct Roman empire.
They hide the facts that the Goths and the Parthians (the ancestors of the present day Germans, Russians, British, Spanish, Italians, and Iranians…the Aryans!!!) were the mortal enemies of the dark Ibero-Maurisian Romans, Greeks, Egyptians, Libyans, and Numidians, Mauritanians, and Saharans, the original owners of western Europe. They promote a fake and false notion that Rome was a so-called white created civilization affiliated with their Gothic ancestry. But this is a lie!

Not extremely full lips, fuller than European lips, but thinner than what they are saying that “traditional” Africans have, not that I don’t have relatives that have those features, I was actually saying I have people with all of the features they claim are “European” or “Afro-Asiatic” features they claim Egyptians to have in hieroglyphics, some mummies and sculptures because of the faded colors.
Where do people with no pigmentation come from? Its called Albinism.
Many Black people have thin lips, therefore, white people do not have a patent on thin lips, same Blacks don’t have a 100% patent on large lips, noses etc.
I guess what I don’t understand in this conversation, is the claim that this information has been hidden. Even prior to obtaining a degree in History, I understood very well the role blacks played in the Roman Empire, to include it’s rulers. Nothing I’ve read above is new to me. In my teen years, I wouldn’t have had quite the level of detailed knowledge revealed, but had a grasp on it. While I appreciate you have ethnic/cultural pride, I feel the charges leveled are a little off base. (Though I do agree with the overall charge that history, as revealed in basic school education is grossly narrow-minded).

My point is. If i was born in China, i would be Chinese, if i was born in India i would be Indian, if I was Born in Italy I would be Italian. Does that make is a Race or ethnicity?. People of Colour are all Black and their place of birth is their ethnicity not a separate race. Why this unhealthy fixation with who was black in order to try and find some achievements that can be attributed to blacks? In reality these emperors you speak of may have had some black blood but that was only part of their genetic makeup. Why should it matter and at what percentage of black blood would you be satisfied with? Based on the argument made that even a small percentage makes one black, then most of us are black (even the Queen of England has a black ancestor). So why all the hate on those of us “blacks” who happen to be lighter skinned? If you go back far enough, we are all black, including the Chinese, since everyone originally emerged from Africa. Instead of being stuck in the past, why not embrace the future? After all, we will all be white one day. After a hundred thousand or so more years of evolution your descendents will also be white skinned too, and with narrow noses to boot. You may not like it, but it is an undeniable fact that with modern life being clothed and sheltered in buildings out of the sun black descendents will evolve toward lighter skin, and without living in dusty conditions their noses will narrow, etc. There’s no hate here, just reality. Embrace it. Why hate your future descendents? Instead love them and remove the cancerous hate from your heart. They will be human too, as are we whiter “blacks”. Evil is evil, no matter who the perpetrator is and we can’t blind ourselves with race in order to imagine that one group that doesn’t look like us is evil. I’ll give you an example: since you claim that North African individuals and cultural achievements are part of your heritage (e.g. Pyramids, Roman emperors, etc.), then you must also claim responsibility for North African crimes (just as you attribute crimes of slavery by certain Europeans to all of us of European descent). Therefore, by that logic you should share in the inherited responsibility slavery conducted by North Africans against other peoples (massive depopulation of European coastal communities as a result of Corsair/ Barbary pirate slavers that took as many as 20% of Europeans into slavery, a far greater percentage than that of blacks later taken by Europeans), or indeed the enslavement of black Africans by these same North Africans (or for that matter inter-tribal slavery conducted by sub-Saharan Africans against each other and their integral involvement in the slave trade to the Americas). Can you see the absurdity of this now? Blaming those living for past crimes committed by individuals to whom they likely have no relationship (and even if they were descended from them, they are not the perpetrators and are only responsible for their own decisions) makes no sense. You would have to blame yourself as much as anyone else. Evil lies in the weakness of men and in evil doctrines that are handed down through generations (such as Islam which is at the heart and soul of slavery, both of blacks and in modern times of women, children and even of dark skinned blacks by Muslims in North Africa, as well as any number of other terrors such as female circumcision.)
I urge blacks who read this to see how caustic the philosophy of victimhood is to themselves and everyone else. We are all mortal and children of God, each capable of good and evil.
