According to the Russian Institute for Social Research at least five million Russian women would have to prostitute themselves before this year runs out, to make up for the consequences of their poverty due mainly to the current economic crisis and the growth of the unemployment rate.
Many of those millions of women are respectable middle class women with regular 9 to 5 day jobs. Yet, they will be forced to walk the street occasionally if they must make ends meet financially. The researchers dubbed the phenomenon as ‘sporadic prostitution.’
Thus a Russian sporadic prostitute means an Eastern European/Russian woman who makes her living as a prostitute two or three times a week while staying a respectable woman during the rest of her time. ‘Sporadic prostitutes’ often take to the streets when they are in-between jobs or when they need cash before they get paid at work.
There are at least 200,000 of them in Moscow alone even though many Russian officials would deny this fact. A quick search on Google or other search engines on the internet would confirm that Moscow is a prostitute’s paradise.

34% – poverty
17% – impossible to explain
