African Indians

Compared to the fate of Africans of the Americas, the history of Africans in India is still largely unknown to the west.

There are small communities like Jambur scattered along India’s west coast. They are the home to the descendants of Africans who arrived on theIndian continent thousands of years ago. Many of them travelled there as mercenaries, merchants and sailors.

Sea trade between east and southern Africa, and Gujarat in India was established more than 2,000 years ago.

……………………………

Many of India’s kings and princes recruited Africans as their ministers, personal bodyguards, and musicians. In some parts of India and Pakistan Sidis even rose to be powerful generals or kings themselves.

  1. ok i should mention education is the key to unity ,so let’s teach the young one’s for the best future possible ,learn to love your brother

  2. Pakistanis of African Origin are not called Black Indians, they would be Black Pakistanis, but are known as the Sheedi.

How insulting, it’s like saying British Black population are African Americans!

  3. This is all part of afro-centric philosophy. The blacks in india were relegated to the lowest tier of the caste stystem, along with other dark-skinned indians, forced to perform manual labor and widely discriminated against. There is no evidence of a single black general, king or leader in india. Also, many so called africans are in fact remanants of the original austroliod (sorry for my mispelling) race that arrived in india around 70,000 years before present and are not connected to the Africa that the writer imagines.

  4. ? am a black man. Either indians and blacks are equally racist, one is more racist than the other,or they are both not racist. You may like to know that ? have decided on this issue, and that ? KNOW that ? am correct.? base my decision on my experiences.

  5. I am simply a black man looking at all the people here looking for bragging rights to say “I have climbed to the top of the dung heap with the rest of my people” who ever they may be. You are still on a dung heap. All the mess this world is facing no matter the caste or technology I see no bragging rights.

    1. I agree completely – as Pliny said “And man who has driven out the inhabitants of other lands and enclosed others in fences like barb wire; after all this? What greater portion of
the earth is he master of?”

  6. Man,
whatever is history of the blacks in india, muslim kings bought’em as slaves. no indian bought a black man as slave. u love ganja indians love ganja. ganja is indian word. so com on man, we don’t hate africans. some westerners just love to say that we are racist. that sort of makes their racism smaller. so, let’s give to you. i salutes all of ya. those who bought blacks as slaves were Turki & Arab, not native indians.
