The Black Roots of Ex President Dwight D. Eisenhower

Dwight D. Eisenhower had black ancestry via his maternal side, Ida Elizabeth Stover Eisenhower; it was used politically against him by his opponents.

Ida Link’s mother — Elizabeth Link (Eisenhower’s maternal grandmother) has no known family tree:

Why are her parents listed as “unknown”?

She’s a genealogical dead end. But no one is a genealogical dead end unless someone wants them to be.

She was born in Mount Sidney, Virginia,[1] the only daughter of Elizabeth Ida Juda Link and Simon P. Stover.

Here’s the problem: In Mount Sidney to this day there are both black families and white families with the surname “Link”.. Many years ago, a black researcher discovered that Ida’s mother was from the black Links a fact washed away in time by two things:

1. Her mother died when she was five years old.

2. She went to live with a white family after.

3. She moved to Kansas while in her teens.

4. She married a white man.

  1. What’s all,the fuss about?…,many so called whites passed over the years…..example…..Jefferson Davis second wife Verena Davis, the founder of Stanford university wife,Jackie Kennedy…
The actor Joseph cotton,Marilyn Monroe,Jayne Mansfield…..the ,list is large…..oh one last one babe Ruth.

    1. Arnold Schwarzeneggar, Mick Jagger, Tom Jones, Michelle Lee, Angie Dickinson, Natalie Wood, and millions of other whites have Black ancestry. Does not make them Black though.

  2. Just as important, did Eisenhower himself believe it to be true?

After all, he sent an Airborn division into Arkansas to force integration into the public schools in 1957. Though I was just born that year, I’m glad he did. Could he have had an extra dose of respect for the then surging Civil Rights Movement because of it? Makes sense to me.

  3. Queen Charlotte of England who had 15 children 13 lived to be adults. The majority of her paintings give her the appearance of being of ethnic brown skin background.

  4. Eisenhower’s African American cousin is a dark-skinned and beautiful older female doctor (Ph.D.) who lives in Topeka, Kansas. I met her a few years ago at an event at Brown v. Board of Education Historic Site. She said Eisenhower never shyed away from attending family reunions.
