Glenn Ford Speaks: “Obama is not the One.. and Black is Back For Social Justice”

If we are to head off political and existential disaster, it is critical that Black-led formations reassert themselves to reverse the paralysis that has engulfed the Black Liberation, anti-war and anti-corporate movements since the ascension of Barack Obama. The evidence has accumulated in fearsome abundance: rather than unleashing the pent-up energies and aspirations of those who suffer under the rule of profiteers and militarists – most especially, African Americans – Obama’s rise has led to wholesale surrender of Black and “progressive” leadership to the financial and war-making interests embraced by the First Black President…………………

Obama preached peace, then enlarged U.S. wars. He championed the language of universal health care, while sabotaging its most fervent supporters. He moves his lips to criticize the bankers, then puts tens of trillions of the people’s dollars at their disposal. He orates on the pain of poverty, and in the next breath proclaims that “a rising tide lifts all boats.” He blames African underdevelopment on internal corruption while relentlessly militarizing the continent through the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM). He panders to the most base white prejudices by calling Black men boys and singling out African Americans as models of bad morals and work habits. …

“While Obama has opposed the demand for reparations for African people in the U.S. for the history of slavery, exploitation and terror, he has handed over trillions of dollars of the taxpayer’s money to the banking elite. Meanwhile millions of African people have lost their homes after being targeted by these same bankers for subprime mortgages that result in the loss of billions of dollars of African community wealth in the form of mass home foreclosures…”

Oprah was dead wrong: Obama is not The One. He is not even an ally; he is an obstacle that must be struggled against, a formidable bulwark of finance capital and imperial barbarism.
…………………

As racist whites transfer their hatred of African Americans to the person of Obama, far too many Blacks have forsaken their traditional causes – peace, economic justice and social equality – to circle the wagons around a politician that is fundamentally opposed to the historical Black agenda in all respects but one: upward mobility for Black politicians. In the absence of a militant Black critique and challenge to Obama, the Black conversation devolves into angry counterattacks against the likes of Glenn Beck, and little else. Meanwhile, the objective circumstances of our people deteriorate on an unprecedented scale as a direct result of White House policies and the policies of previous presidents that Obama has embraced………………………………

  1. Good point, when has any president been on the people’s side…….
    I say we son’t need imperialism/capitalism…
Let us get back to our roots..
    Live simple, Love immaculate!
    Jah Bless

  2. I don’t understand why everyone is so suprised that Obama does not identify with US African Americans, he is not one of us! He has not known the sting of slavery, he never was descended from slaves and will never lift a finger to help anyone of us. I knew who he was all of the time because I actually read his books and researched him before I would give him my vote and I voted against him and I am black. Barack Obama is just like Tiger Woods when it comes to race, he will list all of his ancestry with mentioning black as the last because to him black is the absolute worst part of himself. He fooled all of you didn’t he? Oh and by the way, to himself and anyone who really looks at his body language, he is just as white as they are and they know it but he is really hiding in plain site because his first allegiance is to the Muslims, he said so himself in his book Dreams From My Father and now that Glenn Beck has spotted him hiding in plain site, he may not make to January, he will be impeached. Disgraceful.

    1. Caught you out there lying your pink arse off Annie so called white gal! No black woman would ever listen to the fat pink-faced racist like Glen Beck not to even talk of using his comments as a basis for truth and factuality.

Only right-wing red-neck nuts like u would listen to that god-damned, god-forsaken idiot like Glen Beck.

So pink arse Annie, you better behave yourself next time, and stop lying for goodness sake….

      Jahdey

  3. THE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN HOODWINKED AN BAMBOOZLED LIKE APPRENTICES WITH CRAFT,IN GOVT VOCAB,BLACK MEANS SECRET ,BLACK ATTACK , ATTACK THE BLACK WITH THE BLACK POLITICIAN NOW PESIDENT ,SO WE STAY IN THE DARK ABOUT OUR BIRTHRIGHTS BY KEEPING USBLACK IN THE LAW ,A CONSTITUTIONAL EXPERT WOULD TELL US THEIR IS NO SUCH THING AS AN AMENDED CONSTITUTION, BARACK KNOWS THIS BUT HE SAYS THEY GOING BY CONSTITUTION ,I SAY ONLY WHEN THEY HAVE TO AND CANT GDET OU TO SAY YUOUR THE STRAWMAN ,AFTER 13-14 AMENDMENT ,THE DOCUMENT IS DEAD FOR THE SO CALLED CITIZEN IF YOU AGREE TO ACT AS CAPITUS DIMINUTIA MAXIMUS [ALL CAPITAL] CORPORATE STRAWMAN PERSON .CAPITAL RUNS THE WORLD

Jah Rateng: For the sake of argument lets assume you are African American Ann. Your views are unfortunate and rather old, hateful, divisive, weak. If Africans in motherland and those of you in diaspora (due to the kidnap of your ancestors) kept up like this we Africans in motherland would not both with greats like WEB Dubouis (who influenced Nkwameh Nkrumah)

The Rastafarians would not care so much for the locks as they would not view the Mau Mau as role models of a sort-oh, they will not view Ethiopia, HIM Haile Selassie as a symbol of Africa’s might concealed and revealed.

Thurgood Marshal would never have been hired by the newly” independent” Kenya to assist in fashioning a constitution.

Molefi Asante, James Henrik Clark would not bother to read Cheik Anta Diop, Senegalese Scientist/historian. Because he is not a scion of a slave in history.

See where your thickness is leading? Exactly nowhere!

What about Collin Powell, Condi Rice, are these more the genuine article-like?

You need to lean how to think properly like Mandela (do you know him) told your former pesident Bush jnr.

Even if Obama fails to make your life better it is senseless to blame that on his not being of slave descent. You know very well that is no guarantee of anything. Period.

So face reality and speak of unity between I and I in the Motherland and diaspora: What a POWERFUL MOTION that will be.

    Dig?

Rubbish! You have not read his books. You should stop watching too much (fox?) tv.

  5. Well I think Obama is the best man for the job. Anyone they pick is not gonna be perfect. I think they are using him for some purpose. He is very smooth and can distract people from whats going on.
    We have power too!
That power is diminished by fear and negative thinking.
We must envision our own better future!
    Future must be sustainable, clean.
We only have a few years to make this choice.
Our planet is our home, we must stop killing it or we will have to start from the beginning again!
Also we must lay down our greed, start helping and teaching our brothers and sisters.
All people are equal and we must love all, no hate for hate…
always help, be generous it spreads …
money is not important, treat it that way …
do good and good follows you!
