TWO baby-faced brothers aged just 10 and 11 carried out a sickening torture attack on two young friends weeks after being taken into care by a chronically failing social services department
The victims – aged nine and 11 – were brutally beaten and left for dead during a sadistic two-hour sex attack.
The evil brothers had been removed from the home of their drug-addicted mother but were placed with elderly foster parents because of a severe shortage of available carers.
Last night social services chiefs launched a serious case review after it emerged the brothers had been taken on days out to the seaside by social workers – as “punishment” for previous wild behaviour.
Police were also left red-faced after admitting that at the time of the near-fatal attack at Edlington, near Doncaster the brothers should have been in a police station with their foster parents answering questions over a previous attack committed just seven days earlier.
Police were actually hunting for the boys as they carried out the assault.
The evil pair appeared at Sheffield Crown Court yesterday and admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent to the nine-year-old boy and his 11-year-old best friend after luring them to a remote beauty spot with the promise of showing them a giant toad.
They were beaten with bricks and sticks, branded with cigarettes and forced to perform a sex act on each other as one of the boys sobbed: “Leave me to die.” A sink was dropped on the head of one of them.
The attack brought chilling echoes of the murder of two-year-old James Bulger in Liverpool in 1993 and police sources admitted it was a “miracle” the two victims survived.
Both are now making good progress but remain too scared to leave the safety of their homes.
