Nine days before death row inmate Earl Washington’s scheduled execution, his lawyers informed the state of Virginia that it was about to murder an innocent man. Forensic analysis of semen introduced at trial had convinced the jury that Washington, whose mental abilities matched those of a 10-year-old, had brutally raped and murdered a young woman in 1982. Washington’s lawyers uncovered evidence that the analysis was faulty. The state halted the impending execution, and following a gubernatorial pardon, Washington was released from prison in 2001. He had been there for 17 years.

The current “gold standard” test for measuring vitamin D status may not accurately diagnose vitamin D deficiency in black individuals. A team of researchers has found that genetic differences in a vitamin D carrier protein may explain the discrepancy between the prevalence of diagnosed vitamin D deficiency in black Americans and a lack of the usual symptoms of vitamin deficiency.

Contrary to reports that the first case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the United States was in a man diagnosed with the illness on September 30, 2014, former researcher with the United States Defence, Prof. Maurice Iwu, stated that it occurred in a macaque monkey on October 4, 1989, and was then transmitted to one of the research workers.
