Kelechi Amadi

Born on December 29, 1969, Kelechi Amadi-Obi obtained a Law degree at the University of Nigeria Nsukka in 1992, and was called to the bar in 1993. Since then, he has devoted himself to art, focusing extensively on life drawing, using both live models and photographs. His nature studies involve keen technical experimentation with the paint medium. Depending on his subject-matter, he sometimes strives relentlessly for an airy water color effect with oil paint, in the process creating works such as Reflections and Seated Woman. At other times he avidly concentrates on the slick viscosity of the medium which he captures in works such as Lawanson and Tussle for the Road. Kelechi has produced a number of portraits in oil for clients, but he is a his eloquent best in watercolor studies of nature and female bodies. A full time professional artist, Kelechi has today proven himself to be one of Nigeria's contemporary artists to watch. Serious about the technical quality of his creations and dedicated to his chosen subject-matter, he is equally fervent in his love for art. His studio is a gathering place for fellow artists to commune, display and critique each others' works. Kelechi's works feature in several private collections within Nigeria and abroad. His commissioned works range from illustrations for several calendars, Magazine cover designs to portraits.
