A nation's place in the world is defined by a matrix of factors, which are reflected in two dimensions - how the nation sees itself and how others see it. The nation's image of itself emerges from the shared dreams and vision of the leadership and the citizenry and may involve some myth making. Its perception by others, however, will include their evaluation of that nation in the power calculus of the international order. If we are the Giant of Africa, we should not only project that image but there would be ingredients in that projection that will enforce recognition and compliance by other states.

There are three keys to a successful industrialization and economic diversification strategy. One is to have a clear government strategy - not to be confused with direct state involvement in running industries, which we all acknowledge to be a thing of the past. It is a well-known fact that in South East Asia, governments took an active role in promoting industrialization, intervening at strategic points through regulation and incentives and mobilizing resources where appropriate. The second factor in promoting industrialization and diversification is regional integration. The third is a robust private sector response. I will elaborate briefly on the latter two issues.

Other regions that have been found to contain a significant proportion of haplogroup K2 individuals include South India (18/305 or 5.9%), United Arab Emirates (8/164 or 4.9%), Ethiopia (6/126 or 4.8%), East India (14/367 or 3.8%), South Iran (4/117 or 3.4%), and Turkey (13/523 or 2.5%). One must recall that East India, Arabia, and south Iran have a huge population of Dark Brown people of African descent living there even today. Those are the K2 type people.

The less ecologically rich environments of Europe and other non-tropical ecosystems when compared with the more varied and complex landscapes of tropical Africa can be convincingly argued to select for reduced levels of fine discernment and/or complex reasoning ability in various homo species. Evolutionary evidence relating to Homo erectus, for example, suggests that the further he traveled from equatorial Africa the lower his cognitive capabilities became in contrast with those of other erectus lineages that remained in Africa or closer to the African continent. The lineages of Homo erectus, in fact, can be hierarchically arranged in descending order from the most behaviorally complex to the least, based entirely on its lived distance from equatorial Africa. 1) Homo sapien sapiens remained and evolved in tropical Africa and is the most behaviorally complex 2) Neanderthals would evolve in ice age Europe, and 3) Peking man evolved in East Asia.

In 1973 while 11.1 per cent of the United States population was black, about a quarter of all major league baseball players, a third of all pro football players and two thirds of all pro basketball players were black. Black players also appeared to earn more than white players in these sports, which would suggest a superior athlete. In more recent years it has been shown that while African Americans make up approximately 12.5% of the American population, they comprise nearly 79 per cent of pro Basketball players, close 67 per cent of pro football players and are dramatically overrepresented among professional boxing champions and other professional athletes.
