A new book is set to hit the market from the pen of Award winning blogger and author of romantic fiction, Myne Whitman. The novel, titled A LOVE REKINDLED is set in the United States and Nigeria, and is a story that entertains, is emotionally engaging, and provides a window into Nigerian culture, places and people. This book was written to showcase local characters in a loving relationship, something that is almost never seen in books. The author also witnessed ethnic violence in Warri and decided to explore this topical issue through fiction.

Universities are called the ivory tower. This is where intellect is sharpened and minds are developed. However, the country’s universities appear to have figuratively added a new course: “Sexology.” Although this infamous course does not earn anybody a degree, it’s so popular that many female undergraduates go for it. And they are making fortunes.

FORTUNE — A luxury suite at the W Hotel in Dallas is as good a place as any to conquer the world. At least it seemed that way in 2007 when Tobechi Onwuhara got the crew together. They’d meet there often, seven or eight of them. Some had nicknames from the Ian Fleming lexicon: C, Q, and E. Others were called Mookie, Orji, Uche. They would spread out on designer sofas and at the wet bar, open three-ring binders, and fire up laptops with hard-to-trace wireless cards. On a nearby table there’d be prepaid cellphones with area codes taped to them. A phone for Southern California. A phone for Northern Virginia. A phone for any place Onwuhara had found the “good money.”

WARRI, 17 December 2010 (IRIN) - As families count the cost of another military operation against militants in the Niger Delta, analysts say up to now government efforts to quell violence are hampered by corruption and fail to get at the deep-seated causes of unrest in the region.

Residents told IRIN hundreds of families are still displaced more than two weeks after the crackdown.

Released in December 2009, the novel which started life as a series of excerpts shared on the author's blog has brought only accolades in its wake.

Reports from the publisher Authorhouse, confirm the great reception the book has got so far in terms of sales. The novel also was recently selected by The New African Woman July Issue as one of the Summer Must-reads alongside The Long Song by Andrea Levy and The Memory of Love by Aminatta Forna.

Whether East or West, the Nollywood phenomenon has been attracting a lot of interest, especially due to the number of films that the industry has been releasing. As it grows older, the phenomenon seems to be stagnating, that is going by the number of film releases.

But some of these seem to enjoy a bright moment. One of the acclaimed Nigerian films, The Figurine, made about $10,000 when it premiered in cinemas. Not a mean feat as it was one of the first Nigerian films to return this kind of box office figures from local cinemas. The other film that got that close was Through the Glass, produced and directed by actress Stephanie Okereke. Through the Glass made N10m at the cinemas.
