The Fomorians

There are many oblique references to the presence of Black people in ancient Ireland. Ancient Irish mythology refers to the original inhabitants of the island as being a giant, sea-faring people called the Fomorians (Fomors), which means “dark of the sea”. According to the ancient lore, they were a cushitic people from the African continent. Often depicted as demons, they defeated the first few incoming waves of invaders, but could not defeat the Firbolgs, who settled the land and lived side-by-side with the native Fomors.

Those myths may have a factual historical basis. It is proposed that the Formorians were a real people who were in all likelihood sailors from the African continent.

Two more invasions, the first led by the godly Tuatha de Danaan, and the second by the Celtic Milesians, took control of Ireland, mixing together with the Fomorians until they were no more.

There are credible sources for the African association with Ireland. The most likely of these is that they were Phoenicians and/or Egyptians. The Phoenicians were Canaanites, which came from the line of Ham. Ham is the mythological ancestor of the Black nation.

The Phoenicians were also well-known for their sailing skills, and are said to have traveled to the British Isles, which they called the “Tin Islands”. Perhaps, before Ireland was a Celtic domain, which it wasn’t until a few centuries BCE, the Phoenicians colonized it. It is noteworthy that the name Fomorians sounds a bit like Phoenicians.

There is also a legend that an Egyptian princess, Scota, left Egypt with some followers and journeyed to Ireland. Legend has it that Egyptians left many ancient tin mines all over Britain but especially Ireland which was their major source of the valuable metal.

Another idea is that they were Taureg Berbers. The Berber language is Hamitic, and the Berber people live in an area from which travel to Ireland would be easily accessible. The Berbers perhaps set sail from western Morocco, and settled on Ireland before the Celts, making it their new home.

Moorish Science Temple founder Drew Ali teaches that Ireland was once part of a Moorish empire, and that the Irish are a Moorish people. Perhaps there is a common root between the “moor” sound in Fomor and the word Moor?

Selkies and Half-Breeds

Another Irish legend tells of the Selkies, a sort-of “wereseal” that is a seal during day, but a human by nightfall. Sometimes, in an Irish family of fair-skinned, light-haired people, a child is born with dark hair eyes, and skin, and is called a Selkie.

The concept of the Selkies appears to make subliminal reference to the half-breed children that resulted from the extensive miscegenation that occurred between the Celts and the dark skinned original inhabitants that they had met upon their arrival in Ireland.

Many people of Irish descent have distant and recent African roots, and these features can still be seen in the people and in the culture. There are some Irish people with Afros (just like Andre the Giant a late continental European wrestler with afro-hair). In Southern Ireland, some people, referred to as “Black Irish”, are noted for their strikingly dark features, as opposed to the fair-skinned, light-haired north.

Although many Irish descendants are particularly pale, they do have pronounced Africoid facial features, as well as dark brown eyes, and dark brown hair that is sort-of kinky, especially in moist conditions. A sub race of the Irish called the Bronn are noticeably Mediterranean (read: African) in features especially their hair.

In addition to all of this, Celtic music is distinctly different from the rest of Europe, and easily comparable to African music.

Black, Viking and Irish

Unlike Scotland and England, Ireland was never colonized by the Romans. As a result, Ireland remained relatively isolated.

The Vikings established port cities like Dublin. The Viking texts left stories and descriptions of African soldiers captured in Ireland whom they called blaumen[blue-men].

Most Viking references to ”black” in Norse would have signified having black hair as opposed to skin color but blaumen meant black skinned. Most of these blaumen were captured soliders from Moorish Spain. It was observed that:

“A prominent Viking of the eleventh century was Thorhall, who was aboard the ship that carried the early Vikings to the shores of North America. Thorhall was “the huntsman in summer, and in winter the steward of Eric the Red. He was, it is said, a large man, and strong, black, and like a giant, silent, and foul-mouthed in his speech, and always egged on Eric to the worst; he was a bad Christian.””

“Another Viking, more notable than Thorhall, was Earl Thorfinn, “the most distinguished of all the earls in the Islands.” Thorfinn ruled over nine earldoms in Scotland and Ireland, and died at the age of seventy-five. His widow married the king of Scotland. Thorfinn was described as “one of the largest men in point of stature, and ugly, sharp featured, and somewhat tawny, and the most martial looking man… It has been related that he was the foremost of all his men.””

What about Scotland and Wales?

“Any comprehensive account of the African presence in early Europe should include England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Scandinavia. The history and legends of Scotland confirm the existence of “purely Black people.” We see one of them in the person of Kenneth the Niger. During the tenth century Kenneth the Niger ruled over three provinces in the Scottish Highlands.

The historical and literary traditions of Wales reflect similar beliefs. According to Gwyn Jones (perhaps the world’s leading authority on the subject), to the Welsh chroniclers, “The Danes coming in by way of England and the Norwegians by way of Ireland were pretty well all black: Black Gentiles, Black Norsemen, Black Host.””

  1. It seems to me that Blacks like to think every Historical person was Black. There is no DNA evidence for your stupid theories, you want to debate? I’ll prove you wrong every time.

  2. “genetic marker e3b is NOT caucasoid, its lineage goes all the way back to uganda where another lineage splits off to eventaully form the caucasoids and mongoloids.”

Actually, Haplogroups such as those have absolutely nothing to do with racial phenotype. Nothing, they predate racial phenotypes and run parallel to them as an unconnected genetic marker; many are highly analogous to phenotypes because they ran along side them, but the marker being present in a separate population doesn’t mean that there was autosomal genetic intermixture of that type at all. Someone who calls themselves a ‘geneticist’ should know this.

  3. CelticARYAN, celts are not aryans mate no matter how much you want it you nordicist.

Most welsh and cornish people have dark hair and dark eyes.

  4. Ok, can somebody PLEASE tell me why white people think that Egypt isn’t a part of Africa and why they think that African, as in BLACK people, didn’t build the pyramids… “No Greek was educated by either Egyptians or Ethiopians. They studied in their city of Alexandria in Egypt, which was a Greek city, inhabited and founded by Greeks, where thoughts and ideas flowed freely – that’s how scholarship flourished; and I’ve already revealed to you that the Egyptians have never been black anyway.” This clearly shows that this person thinks that Egypt isn’t in African, where black people live, thrive, and existed throughout history. I think that the greeks may have added some ideas from their culture into Egyptian culture because as when anybody of another culture invades or comes into contact with another culture abruptly, they add their own flavor to what’s going on. But to say that “Egyptians have never been black anyway” is just IGNORANT! Plus, I don’t know if Skeptic paid any attention to the statues, tombs, artifacts, and hieroglyphics that come, and came, from Egyptian pyramids but all of those things have big LIPS AND BUTTS, traits that specifically belong to African peoples! White people don’t have these things naturally. These are traits that whites pay for. Plus, we have to remember that the Greeks braid hair, meaning that they had to have some ties with Africans because hair braiding originated in AFRICA.
I mean, it’s common sense!!! Yeah, Egypt’s in northern Africa, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s in Africa…
Come on people! And I gotta say that I’m enjoying the debate between Jahdey and Skeptic. But I must also say that you two are very knowledgeable individuals but sometimes, you both throw some low blows. I don’t believe that either one of you is racist. I think that you just have to remember that when two people of opposing opinions and differing colors get into a debate, things are going to seem like one or both of you are racist, even if that’s not the case. I commend both of you for this debate and your respective honest opinions.
But I seriously think that Skeptic needs to do some more research on the Egyptians. If they were Caucasian people, why aren’t there any pyramids like the ones in Egypt anywhere near the Caucasoid mountains but there are remnants of pyramids and pyramid like structures in Africa. I mean, come on, it seems like people do all they can not to give credit where credit is due! And to refute Skeptic’s notion of their not being any genetic evidence of there being black origins in Ireland, there were genetic tests done in 2004 to show that there are indeed genetic ties and relations that show the Irish as being genetically and undeniably bound to blacks. I’ll get back to you with the website, forgive my lack of proof at the moment.
And, Felisza, I agree with you completely about the blacks wanting a claim on superiority. My question to whites is why do you always try to force inferiority on us, are you afraid of something???? Notice, there is no problem when blacks don’t care to know their history or make claims on history and our presence within it, but the second that we start talking about our doings and dealings in history, they have a problem with it! And lookin at the big booties on the painting on the walls of the tombs in the pyramids, how can you DARE say that the Egyptians were white?! Thas just blatent stupidity, plus we are ignoring the fact that these people wore BLING and were extremely CLEAN! Moreover, we HAVE to think about the names of these people, no white man could come up with a name a unique as Nefertiti or Cleopatra, come on now! Plus, ain no denying that King Tut was black, look at dem LIPS! Plus, we can’t forget that the Egyptians wore cornrows and braids! A style that is undeniably AFRICAN, NOBODY else in the world styled their hair like that. http://www.freemaninstitute.com/Gallery/Egyp022_big_copy.jpg

I think the idea of the white man actually finding out that all his ploys to cover up the true history of the world, which is that the BLACK man has dominated the world LONG before he could even think to, is mind-boggling to him, especially when he has been taught oppress and think lowly of that which has dominated him in many, if not all, facets of life. Maybe that’s the white man’s worst fear, no matter what I do or say, the black man is still on top! Especially since whites are doing all they can to refute the afro-centric perspective.

  5. Where did the other 1o% of the`original Irish come from? Well, we know in the last global warming innuits and Micmac and Beothuk Indians from Maritime Canada went whale hunting in their large ocean going humpbacked canoes. In fact Micmac legends have their Deity, Glooscap, discovering England before the Europeans `discovered America. The Acadians came to fish the the Grand BankS to catch the Morue fish to feed Europe and Asia Minor during many decades`before 1492 and Columbus. The Amerindians first went to Ireland, with no women and they bargained for some and took them to Scotland via the Orkneys and hebrides and became known as the “Picts”. The Breothuks were also called the Painted ones on Newfoundland, an indian nation that looked European and as the black headed swarthy Picts cecame lighter with threir iridsh mates, disappeared suddenly altogether. We are about to enter another LIA and there will be droughts and famine, plus pandemics as Cold does not evaporate water
    and thus much less `

This time however, the ocean is not as well stocked. Nature has to balance things out, living room, the unlimitable population on limited land, etc. Its here for a few hundred years. As many old Acadians (Cajuns)still have old cisterns and fresh water wells on their homesteads in memorial to the last LIA, It is `recommended you construct such life saving measures plus a small sturdy greenhouse leading right into your kitchen. Your medicine will be those life saving green fresh vegetables from your indoor garden.

  7. Since everyone is struggling to prove how un-racist they are irrelevant of their comments I’ll be first to claim that my comment will be very racist.

First I want to say that if you wan to consider yourself an intelligent highly evolved human than you should treat all other humans with equal respect irrelevant of their culture, nationality or race. Ok Ha. Now the nitty gritty. Personally I do think that the differences between the races go beyond just skin color. If you understand anything about evolution why would you believe that if there was a long enough separation between groups to change their outward appearance such as skin color, hair, facial and cranial shape, and genetic markers, why would you think that in every other form they are equal? That doesn’t make sense. If in 50000 years outward appearance changed than it’s logical to believe that there are other changes that are not quite as obvious. Look at modern dogs. Different breeds have different temperaments depending in the environment in with they were bread, such as sheep dogs, guard species, and hunting types and many more. Their evolution was much faster because of human intervention, but natural selection works the same way.

So for instance, we know that some humans are more left brained and others more right brained. If you look at mongoloid people it’s pretty obvious that they are predominantly left brained dominant, while Negroid and right brained. Culture is a factor but natural talent is an even greater factor and its clearly evident that Asian children are attracted to more scientific pursuits while black kids are more artistic. Whites seem to fall somewhere in between. I’m not saying that Asians are smarter than Blacks because creativity is very important to genius, but it’s pretty obvious that Asians make better engineers than Blacks and Blacks make for better entertainers than Asians. Like it or not it’s the truth, just look at the world once.

In my opinion we should not deny our differences, but instead embrace them and be proud of your individual talent. I believe that by accepting this fact we can make more sense of history. I think this is why Asia first than Europe became technologically more dominant and why black Africa fell so far behind. This is one of the reason, I’m sure there are many more factors. Africans as a whole are technologically more primitive than Europeans and Asians but that doesn’t mean that overall they are dumber, it simply means that their talents lay elsewhere. It’s like taking a chess champion and putting him on the basketball court. Just because he is a champion doesn’t mean he will be good at every sport because it you take a basketball champion and put him in front of a chess board the same will happen. Each will be terrible at the other endeavor if it’s not their talent.

And I agree that it is sad that some blacks on here are trying to justify themselves with lies, instead of looking at their true talents, and stop trying to be chess champions for no reason what so ever.

    That’s my two cents.
