Donna Wood Biography

Donna Wood, FlautistDonna Wood, a noted performer and educator, is a native of Thompson, P A. She was raised in a family of artists and musicians. She holds a B.S. in Music Education and M.A. in Saxophone Performance.

Donna has a studio of forty aspiring student musicians throughout the school year, developing their skills on a variety of instruments, presenting concerts and solo recitals. She has done this for more than twenty years.

She has also written arrangements of her original compositions which have been performed in concerts and recorded by the New York Swing Exchange, the Fredonia College and Broome Community College Jazz Ensembles. Her composition "Eyesmology" was used as the title song for a cabaret show at 'Don't Tell Mama' in N. Y.C.

Her long list of credits includes her own quartet at the PA Jazz Festival, Montage Mt., PA, chamber music at the U.N. Chapel in NYC, presenting both a solo jazz flute and a violin/flute recital with Kelly Howard in Ogunquit, Maine. She has, several times, been flautist at Owego's River Rose cafe 'Teas'. She is the flautist with Trio Barocco of Tunkhannock, PA. Donna is a past president of, and frequent performer with the Harmony Club of Binghamton. She is a past member of the Binghamton Symphony, Cider Mill Playhouse and TiAhwaga Players Orchestras.

Jazz flautist, Donna, also loves many unusual and beautiful vocal ballads and Latin tunes which she now and then delves into. Known as a first rate scat soloist, you will be pleasantly surprised at the vocal journey that you are taken on.

Gene Cothran Biography

Gene Cothran, Noted Jazz PianistGene Cothran is originally from Philadelphia, PA and he has lived in the Triple Cities since 1971 when he started at IBM. He has a classical background in music but loves blues and jazz, most.

Gene has been in the local music scene and has performed in the past with the Twilight City Blues Band. Gene also performs with Miles Ahead a local Jazz quartet in addition to Blue Shift. Gene is currently retired but still enjoys performing, “This is my job now” says Gene. His musical influences are Ray Charles, Dr. John, Duke Ellington, B. B. King, Lou Rawls When asked whom he would like to meet most Gene replied: “I would really enjoy meeting and playing with Dr. John”.

Gene has also performed on the famous Beale Street in Memphis.
