The Africa House is open in Endicott and ready to showcase an array of African art and culture.

The gallery opened its doors for the first time Friday. The owners say they're hoping to bring African art into the mainstream American public.

They also say you don't necessarily have to be of African descent to appreciate the culture.

"This is to make a statement that Africa is global... and people have traveled and settled in different places for different generations. So any artist who affirms African descent, we'll showcase their work here and any artist of any race who engages African sensibilities or iconography will also be showcased here," said Nkiru Nzegwu, Gallery Owner.

Gallery hours are from 10 to 6 every Tuesday through Saturday.
