JJ thank you for this very interesting piece.
Rootsomania hunting can become compulsive. With the addition of DNA interpretations, this endless multi dimensional quest is likely to get more complex and 'explanations' harder to find.
A big and perhaps more useful gap in knowledge to illuminate concerns the evolutionary stages of the mind or human state.
The only work that I know of that address this history-of-psychology issue is "The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind" by Julian Jaynes - Princeton 1979.
But will we get an invitation to one of Tiresius' parties? He seems to know lots of exotic people!

The Aethiopia you refer to with Cepheus and Cassiopeia, their daughter Andromeda who married Perseus was not the Ethiopia of Memnon. Aethiopia was a mythological kingdom of Phoenicia whith it's capitol at Joppa (Yafo or Modern Tel Aviv-Yafo in Israel). You should be clear not to confuse the two. In Herodotus there is an Ethiopia that is a Satrap of the Persian empire located along the coast of the Indian Ocean. Again this is not to be confused with modern day Ethiopia. Perseus was an Argive Greek who founded the city of Mycenae. The same Mycenae of Agamemnon fame. Although Agamemnon and Meneleus were Pelopids and not Heraclidae.
