Body and Soul – by – Jide Uwechia

Body and Soul

Body and soul;
two entities in opposition
united for a purpose and a mission,
for a while.

One is of the earth
dense and material;
One is of ether
light and immaterial.

One is bound to the earth
locked in its gravitational cycle;
One would but soar
with the circuits of the returning winds.

One is of fire,
One is like unto moving waters;
One rises like the smoke
one sinks like the sea

Each seeks a different direction
a different aspiration;
yet yoked together like two oxen
they will so remain for a while.
Hence the body could
not bear the soul forever,
neither could the spirit
carry the body forever.
For each is a different being,
from a different world,
united for a divine purpose
but just for a while.
