Black Indians: Africans of India and Pakistan!

African Indians

Compared to the fate of Africans of the Americas, the history of Africans in India is still largely unknown to the west.

There are small communities like Jambur scattered along India’s west coast. They are the home to the descendants of Africans who arrived on theIndian continent thousands of years ago. Many of them travelled there as mercenaries, merchants and sailors.

Sea trade between east and southern Africa, and Gujarat in India was established more than 2,000 years ago.

……………………………

Many of India’s kings and princes recruited Africans as their ministers, personal bodyguards, and musicians. In some parts of India and Pakistan Sidis even rose to be powerful generals or kings themselves.

i was just reading about Africans in India. check out a book called “African Elites in India – Habshi Amarat” by Kenneth X Robbins & John McLoad. Inda had links with Africa long before Europens arrived on the scene. some africans came as traders, merchants, or mercenary soldiers. others came as slaves. though it appears to me that this sort of slvery cannot be compared ti european trans atlantic slavery like in America. More like internal slavery within africa and the arab world, slaves were not regarded as lesser human beings and in many cases rose to prominent positions of power. In india up until independence two kindoms (Janjira and Sachin) were run by african dynasties. Its a pity how little we actually know of our history. In many ways India was a more global and less bigotted place few hundred years ago

Greetings in the name of Yahshua Adonai. I am always interested in reading about African history. The black man is where he is at the bottom rung of society and looked down upon by other races because he left off worshiping the true and living God and went into idolatry. My message to all my black bros and sisters is return to the true worship of the living and true god and you shall be restored to your position of prominence in the world. By the way I am no rasta but I was born with the original dada. Shalom !

The history of so-called African Indians is a mystery to the writer as well….smoking too much weed me thinks.

The Sidi are just negroid slaves brought to India by the British…..God knows why….its not as if India needed any more low-class thrash, but there u have them….Sidis living in the bushes and jungles like animals, totally excluded from Hindhu society. It is a fallacy to things that there was a great, ancient naval Negroid migration to Europe and Asia……Negroid tribes had not even discovered iron and metals….how could they conquer any army or build a ship???

Hindhu society has a strict caste system, where untouchables (dark skinned people) are not allowed anywhere near a higher caste person……therfore it is impossible for Africans to serve with Hindu kings or satraps……. or even walk on the same street.

Oh Kalsa…U are as ignorant as many who’ve been indoctrinated by multiple processes of illusion…how exactly did the dark skinned Indians some which are darker than many Indians become dark…? Also did U know that all civilization was birthed upon the Afrikan continent including the discovery of iron and metals/including many other natural resources…which are still in this day and age most prominent on the Afrikan continent than anywhere else…? Even Afrika ( South Afrika in particular) has the biggest Indian population outside of India than anywhere else in the world…trash Ur colonial history books and forget about the caste system…I live in India but am from Afrika and have both Afrikan, European and Indian blood running through my veins…I have lighter skin than most Afrikans but I’d be damned if I let that make me as pathetic and bureaucratic as you and many of those like you who assume you are superior in this day and age…

      • Khurshid says

        Very true Jill,
Indians are taught that light skin is better and they even bleach their skin to look more white. This is the poison of the “white supremacy” theory. Not “all” white people believe this but it is so embedded into this society people from all backgrounds fall prey to it.

@ Khalsa please go do some basic reading before commenting. There was Malik Ambar whose original name was Shambu, who was born in the Harar province in Ethiopia in about 1550.The circumstances of how he became enslaved is unknown. but he ended up in India. His master at Mocha,Kazi Hussein, recognizing that Shambu possessed intellectual quilities, educated him in administration and finance. It was during this period that Shambu became a Muslim and was named Ambar by Hussien.

Around 1575 he was purchased by Chingiz Khan,The prime mister to Nizam Mul-Mulk Bani, king of Ahmadnagar. Chingiz khan was himself of African origin and may well have been a desendant of African mercenaries who served as far back as the 13th century in many parts of India. At any rate Chingiz Khan was one of several prominent Habishis in the area. Chingiz Khan was impressed by Amber’s knowledge of Arabic, his loyalty, and his general intellengence. It is likely that those qualities also won him the respect of the other Habishi slaves. In short he promoted Ambar to a position of military and administrative responsibility. He later served under another King at Bijapur where he became a military commander and was well respected by the Arab troops he commanded.

In about 1590, when the king refused to grant him additional funds for Arab trainees,he deserted and took several Arabs eith him.Malik Ambar and his Arab supporters attracted other men ,both African and Deccani, and eventually built up and independent army of 1500 cavalrymen and infantry who fought as mercenaries for various kings. He was able to gain control over King Murtaza 2nd , and with that he started his career as king and not a bad one at that. He stopped the Mughuls in their tracks attracted more trade to the Deccan and bulid public works . and yes he an Ex slave had Brahmins working for him as his principal financial officails and tax collectors.

Iron making goes back to Nok culture in Nigeria over 900 yrs bc other base metals thousands of yrs before that, steel making in east Africa is hundreds of yrs old, and the Sawahelli peoples and their ansectors has been sailing between India, Arabia , and possibily China from at least Greco-Roman times so go smoke on that.

The Siddhi were first brought by the Arabs descendants of the Zenghi of Africa – not the British. Today Indians are not Africans and Africans are not Indians. Nevertheless, in ancient times peoples of almost identical appearance and culture once lived in both Africa and India. Among them were the peoples Herodotus and the Periplus of the Indian Ocean called Ethiopians. The Ethiopians of Saurashtra south of the Indi of the Indus were very tall, black pastoral peoples according to the Periplus of the Indian Ocean ascribed to Arrian of the 1-2nd c. . Herodotus said the culture of the Eastern Ethiopians was identical to those of the equally tall black pastoral Western Ethiopians otherwise known as Sabaeans (Josephus). The only thing that differed about them was the character of the hair. These people were possibly the indigeous Jats or so called “black Zotti” of Iranian writers also called tall lank and dark brown by Arabic speaking historians.

Many Dravidian speakers such as Irula, Tamil, Telegu, Kurumba and in fact who in their unmixed form in rural areas are very short and kinky haired and black as many Africans- are obviously not the same people, as the taller Ethiopians .

The skeletal evidence from Lothal found by early anthropologists claimed they were similar to the Kenya Capsians or Elmenteitans and were thought to have dated from the same period who have since been found to have been originated from southern Saharan culture. This is just one of the populations of pre-Scythic India related to Africans both culturally and biologically.

As for the Hindu caste society some “untouchables” or daalit Professors in the U.S. have told me in their opinion the Indian upper castes are the most racist people in the world, and one certainly doesn’t have to be dark in color to experience it .

The daalits of whatever color also experience the same discrimination by upper caste Indians living in the U.S.

        • mikehunt says

Most East Indians are in denial as to the truth of their origin. Many believe the bollywood lie of all east indians looking or being near white even if they themselves have black skin. East indians like to classify themselves not as brown skin but wheatish in complexion even if they are black like tar. Sometimes i would say to them you are blacker than me. Then they would show me the underside of their arm. Then i would show them mine which was much lighter than theirs. Of course their are fair skinned east indians but they and even the darker ones are hybrids – a direct result of europe adamixture of the black native populations.

I have only ever met one east indian who admitted to his black origin. I attended an assembly designed to empower black students in high school and it was organized by an east indian who said like us, he’s black. I wish was still people like him around to give those talks to black student because they are still needed. All the kids are getting know are jews drilling in their heads that they are victims of holicaust as if black people are not faced with agendas of current genocide through foods that are causing disease and increased incidence of homosexuality (yes, albinos are fucking with the food that’s why there is an increased incidence of homosexuality and inflammatory diseases).

In any event, due to the legacy of the caste system most east indians hybrids would rather not associate with anything darker than themselves muchless anyone black. This,”indian” who is claiming that east indians are ethiopians is more than likely white. I live in the epicentre of multiculturalism. There is no such thing by the way. But in canada where i live many of us sharing each other’s culture so we come close. Most of these so called multicultures set up their own banana republic – coexisting in the same areas but never really mixing. Thus, I have been to ethiopian restaurants and has eatened at ethiopian restaurants and i have yet to see one that looks likes an east indian. And yes, i have met ethiopians and soma
Plians who deny their africanness. Self hatred is one of the legacies left behind by the invaders. Its one thing for a black person who was born on this hemiphere with no direct linkage to africa aside from the tales of enslavement and slave ships told to them by albinos say they are not from africa but to hear some who has family and history on the continent say the same denotes some kind of sickness.

I once met a fair skin east indian woman who told me that she never wanted to marry a man as fair as herself. She desired a man with much darker skin to balance out her fairness of skin. Im not sure why she told me this but then again i had previously read a book on why white woman prefer black men. Unlike the picture presented by insecure albino men as to this being a fetish, it is simply not true. These women are responding to a genetic coding that gives them the desire to go back to the original.

It is also true that many such people as the Puliyar Kurumba, Kota, Kola, Kader, Paniyan, Sambavar still called Adi-Dravida appear in photographs in European colonials’ books indistinguishable from Africans. Thus Harry Johnson’s book, The Negro in the New World, presents some photographs of these Dravidian daalits in a section called The Negro Sub-species pp. 27-28.

  11. Rani says

    Dana,
Two things. Tamil and Telugu are languages not peoples. Secondly, Paniyar, Kurumba, Kota, etc., you refer to are the original aboriginal people of India commonly known as the tribals. They are less than 8% of the population and lead secluded life in the hills and are not part of the greater society. Also, they are related to Australoids who migrated from SE Asia after the Toba volcano 60,000 ybp which annihilated the population of India and Pakistan.

    • viky says

      hello rani, how are you?

    • Pariah Anger says

Keep in mind your socalled defintions of people are very europeam – austroloid , negroid , and caucusoid . The socalled aboriginal people are thought of to be people who mirated from africa as well

  12. Rani says

    Dana,
Also you are confusing Dravidians with Australoids. Dravidian skull structure has been studied extensively and repeatedly shown to be caucasoid. Only the Australoids have kinky hair. Dravidians for the most part have straight and in some cases wavy or curly hair. The only Dravidians with kinky hair are those from lower castes that have intermarried with the Australoids. The vast majority of the Dravidians are Caucasoid.

You are wrong about the Jats. They are the most similar to Western Europeans of all Indians both in stature/features and coloring.

Finally, it’s ironic that you speak of the racist upper castes. Do you realize that what people like you and Clyde Winters do is racist as well. By attributing Indian history and legacy to blacks, you are implying that Indians are somehow incapable of achieving these themselves.

    • Merenotah Asante says

Caucasian is a term coined by a Russian anthropologist at the turn of the nineteenth century and like Aryan has no proper meaning – even though it is used by many ill informed people. In the nineteenth century the people of Ethiopia were wrongly classified as Caucasians. The word itself refers to the Caucus Mountains and refers to a geographical area, while Aryan refers to a Linguistic area. The Russians refer to the Caucasians as black; the western Europeans refer to “Caucasians” as white; the word Aryan itself means Iranian. There is confusion!

The Dravidians are blacker than most blacks of obvious African descent. When does a skull denote a non member of the African race – which is the most diverse race in the world? I say race because I am trying to address ignorance – the Afar of Ethiopia, and the Amharas are examples of this diversity; the former are Kushites, while the latter are Semites. It seems to me that people tend to discus things from their own state of blissful ignorance. These terms such as Caucasian and Aryan are conflicting terms based on unproven theories about the past. The Europeans reckon that they are Aryans (Iranians); the Iranians say they have no record of their being in Iran as aborigines. Let us not be baffled by theories; that is what they are and are not worth sleepless night or dying over. I am suer oft his, however, Rani is good at passing down the gospel according to bwana; she has no observations of her own and that is regrettable.

  13. dana marniche says

    Rani,
Are these the Tamils you are talking about ?

The same one that a Dr K.Loganathan Jan 2003 speaks about below on a blog?

    “Dear Friends

The issue of the linkage between Africans and Dravidians is not something that can be dismissed as something that has no substance in it at all. Anyone who sees the Ethiopians and Tamils could see a remarkable physical resemblance and during my stay in London I mistook some Ethiopians in fact for Tamils.”

Are these the Caucasoids they are talking about Rani. Well fine have it your way.

The good doctor goes on to talk about Dr. Aravanan’s, (the anthropologist) book:

“The book also contains many photographs that reveal the presence of Muruka worship among the East Africans where the Vel, the Spear and the Mayil, the peacock are unmistakably similar to those in Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka.
I shall select only some relevant parts from some of these essays so that they enjoy a wider publicity and the issue of the African connections, among others, of the Dravidians folks becomes a lively again. This may also serve as an antidote to the very popular and highly publicized Aryan Racialism of many scholars both European and Indian.”

    Dr K.Loganathan Jan 2003

Rani, I think you are confusing Aryan Racialism with common sense Tamils may be related more to Ethiopians then they are to Austronesians but neither of these is Caucasoid in the sense that you wish it to be. There are many Shri Lankan Dravidians or Tamil with kinky hair who have had nothing to do with intermarrying with “Australoids”.

Furthermore the Dravidian “tribals” I mentioned have been found by geneticists to have entered India later than Austronesian speakers. Leaving them aside, however, until you can explain to me why black Africans have dozens of the same cultural features in common with ancient Dravidians and why the dialects of the Dravidians resemble so closely those of the black Elamites (who by the way look more like the tribal Dravids then the Ethiopian looking Dravidians) then I suggest you start researching this question like some of us the rest of Dravidian scholars are doing.

I personally am not attributing history to blacks. If certain people had a black appearance and were connected to Africans, however, that should not bother anyone. Of course if one is a racist upper caste Indian, that might be another story.

  14. dana marniche says

And lastly Rani – “The comment that Jats – are the most similar to Western Europeans of all Indians both in stature/features and coloring.” is not really relevant since I was talking about the early Jat populations. I know what Jats look like they are varied in color and appearance as are most North Indian groups today.

Some are dark brown and some are very light in color. The early Jats are only described as tall, dark brown and lank- haired in midieval and early Iranian and Arabic texts. Furthermore one can google blogs on line at anytime and read about dark and light colored Jats arguing about who is the real Jat and calling each other names like monkey and that sort of thing.

    • viky says

  15. sensirebel says

Ok slightly off topic, I was watching a video on youtube about the Sentinalese people of the Andaman islands, who are known to be one of the more agressive tribes. Anyway on one of the first “peaceful” encounters with outsiders, a group of Indians came with coconuts on a boat as a gesture of good intentions. They were trying to communicate to the islanders by saying “Lam, Lam” which means come here in another andaman language.

Straight away i was shocked for three main reasons. One, I know for a fact that in a few north solomon languages “Lam” also means come here. Two, I realised that these people shared a mixture of African and Bougainvillean / Solomon Island appearance. ( also the andaman islands are roughly halfway between Africa and Bougainville) . The third reason I was shocked was, even though some scientists claim that oceanic people have different genetic make up to Africans, the fact that some languages are similar might prove that some people in the Pacific are of more recent african ancestry than previously thought. Who knows? Just google image search for Bougainvillean and Andaman Islanders and you’ll see for yourself the similarities.

If this where true once apon a time this group of people (possibly of more recent African decent than previously thought) occupied the whole area stretching from Africa all the way to the Pacific ocean. Well, either that or they sailed there. I just found it interesting because i see similarities in Bougainvillean and Africans (the people of Bougainville are darkest skinned people in the Pacific who have been described as being so black they look blue) They are classed as melanesians but are easily distinguishable to other melanesians from New Guinea all the way to Fiji whose people ethnically are a mixture of these original dark people and south east asians, Indians, polynesians and micronesians.

  16. ATUM RE says

Nubians were in Indi-Kwush long before these mixture of caucasians in India Calling themselves indians. The word indian is not a race of people. The word indian means an indigenous person of that land!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These people ruling present day india aren’t the original people of that land, and they know it!!!!!!!!

No, that ain’t their country either !
The Ethiopians are the descents of the Dravidians, who were known as great sailors.
Has Africa left anything Worth something ? Like Stonehedge or whatever ?
All the Africans tribal languages are very similar to Hindi, do you know why ?
It looks like none of your guys have done some proper research (Google ain’t that reliable you know)
Thus, I don’t understand that most blacks on that forum are so protective when lightly attacked and agressive in return ?
If Africa was one of the lowest ever civilization, stop blaming the caucasians for it, It means that you were weak to get fucked like that innit ?
Now It’s easy to run your mouth to invent & create some historical facts !
Egyptians also weren’t black Africans you bunch of illiterate !
Damn, Wake up guys, the only one that makes sense on that forum is that dude sayin’ that we’re one people, end of .
But anyway, hate me or not, fuck it !
BLACKS ARE COMPLEXED and that’s a fact, now stop chattin’ shit about a great nation like India, who has done more in a century that Africa has done in ten centuries !
We taught you guys how to cook your food, how to write, how to behave in society… Now you insult us ?
How dare you, scum ! Your ancestors know the truth, you’re just a bunch of idiots reacting with racism and hate, you’re as bad as the white people, It’s all good though, that’s why they’ve been fucking you over all this time !

I Have always known there was a relationship between India and Africa. I have been to India 12 times between 1971-2007. I was very surprise to hear about the Siddi people, and the many other tribal groups who look like African. It is too bad that most light skinned Indians associate themselves with white people. They need to recognize their Yellow, Brown and Black Brothers. I am hoping to visit India next 2011, to visit many of these tribal groups, which has African roots. India is a country of many races. many looks, from frizzy, wooly, curly, wavey to straight hair, noses which are broad, flat and pointed. No one is better than the other people. People should be based upon character, morals and value.

    • Merenotah Asante says

The fair skinned Indians – it has been said- are foreign to India as they came down from Russia centuries ago; had only the horse and bow and arrow, mixed with the local black population – after centuries of miscegenation – declared themselves a caste and went about lording it over the rest of the population – they are part foreign and part miscegenation – like the Albinos of Africa… ha ha ha ! mongrels

the global reach through maritime technology available to VERY ancient civilizations has relevance to this discussion. The Indus valley civilization contact with east african civilizations occurred well before the so called aryan invasions of the indian sub continent which is under discussion here. There is no evidence at all of any form of advanced maritime technology or seafaring originating from india in very ancient times,(exception noted later in this communication, see below) but there is very much evidence of Khemite or Egyptian seafaring technology going back at least 4,000 years. Present day Hindus have some curious negative ideas about the ocean in general and Indians have not been among the early great seafarer peoples despite their significant abilities and contributions in science, engineering, mathematics and astronomy. The melanesian (african)seafarers who undertook great voyages into the western and central pacific from india , it is postulated,(fiji, solomons, etc.) are of interest. A good research topic is the original fijian/melanesian vessel types that were employed on their great voyages of discovery, massive hardwood timber craft of great seaworthiness. “Phoenician” is a good source of research , partners with the Khemites in global voyages of discovery. One should see in person Cheop’s nile party boat on display at the pyramid site museum in Giza. This vessel was a river boat for the regent’s pleasure?, yet with only slight modifications applicable to ocean voyaging (keel design, sail and masts, ballasting) it i easily has transoceanic capability. Of course various types of boats were being built at the time. The craftsmanship of the reconstructed vessels, which lay in their own special tombs at the base of the great pyramid, is astounding (speaking from professional experience).
Thor Hyerdal was an idiot who tried to demonstrate that the egyptians sailed across the atlantic in reed boats (used by common fisherman on the nile) when even at the time of his dumb writings, archeologists knew full well the egyptians had magnificent wooden vessels with proper sailing rigs!. Or were his motives suspect in suppressing this information by undertaking his idiotic adventures? Right, you can build the great pyramid but not a proper wooden boat to sail in? good luck and have fun finding stuff out. Maybe don’t respond to race baiting posts ? Ignore it. life is short. np

India is a great country . and for them to be greater they need to do away with the caste system and move forward. the world is now realizing that Africa breed a lot of different human species so if Indians want to associate themselves with white they should start checking their DNA. I see most Indians women now bleaching their skin to look white ah ah.you have the color of skin the white wants so why destroy it just because you hate blacks. India needs to stop racism and move forward. i will also go and visit those my black brothers over there and see what i can do to help in their struggle.

Pakistanis of African Origin are not called Black Indians, they would be Black Pakistanis, but are known as the Sheedi.

How insulting, it’s like saying British Black population are African Americans!

  24. San says

This is all part of afro-centric philosophy. The blacks in india were relegated to the lowest tier of the caste stystem, along with other dark-skinned indians, forced to perform manual labor and widely discriminated against. There is no evidence of a single black general, king or leader in india. Also, many so called africans are in fact remanants of the original austroliod (sorry for my mispelling) race that arrived in india around 70,000 years before present and are not connected to the Africa that the writer imagines.

? am a black man. Either indians and blacks are equally racist, one is more racist than the other,or they are both not racist. You may like to know that ? have decided on this issue, and that ? KNOW that ? am correct.? base my decision on my experiences.

  26. Michael says

I am simply a black man looking at all the people here looking for bragging rights to say “I have climbed to the top of the dung heap with the rest of my people” who ever they may be. You are still on a dung heap. All the mess this world is facing no matter the caste or technology I see no bragging rights.

I agree completely – as Pliny said “And man who has driven out the inhabitants of other lands and enclosed others in fences like barb wire; after all this? What greater portion of
the earth is he master of?”

  27. Rasta says

    Man,
whatever is history of the blacks in india, muslim kings bought’em as slaves. no indian bought a black man as slave. u love ganja indians love ganja. ganja is indian word. so com on man, we don’t hate africans. some westerners just love to say that we are racist. that sort of makes their racism smaller. so, let’s give to you. i salutes all of ya. those who bought blacks as slaves were Turki & Arab, not native indians.

  28. jayjaswal says

Many Hebrews are worshipping Gods which is a direct commandment of YAH not to due, this is one of many reason that the Hebrew nation has suffered dearly across the world. To my Hebrew Brothers and Sisters in order for your condition in life to get better you must reconnect back to the Mighty El Yahweh.
