Nurturing Nature: Video Installation  & Documentary film by Rees Shad

First Friday - October 1, 2008

6:00pm - 9:00pm

Nurturing Nature is a series of work using interactive media, video installation and more traditional media that collectively allow the gallery visitor to experience elements of a very personal narrative. Working by-and-large with found media Rees Shad has created a group of works that act as lexia in the tale of his journey to familial discovery.

At his core Shad is a storyteller, his work exists at a unique intersection of narrative with film and video, music composition, physical interaction, construction, and interior design. In this artist's studio, antique jewelry chests become miniature electronic theaters, boxes of vintage slides turn into stained glass assemblages, old fishing tackle boxes start telling tales & vintage tube radios are inhabited by ghosts of cold war America.

As an additional element for the exhibition, opening night will be the premiere screening of his documentary film, "Reunion," which tells the story of discovery in a more traditional format, offering a deeper narrative subtext to the exhibtion.
