Azuka Nzegwu, Managing Director and Web Development

Azuka Nzegwu, Managing Director and Web Development, Africa House

Azuka Nzegwu is a doctoral candidate in Philosophy, Interpretation and Culture (PIC) at Binghamton University, whose area of specialization is on theoretical approaches that engage and utilize web-based technologies. She uses open source technology as the primary language for developing research-based multimedia rich modules, localized portals and networks, electronic publication, digital archives, digital cultures and histories, and global repositories that would expand our knowledge base. Azuka graduated from Binghamton University in May 2001 with honors in Africana Studies. She is a recipient of the Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence, an Honorable Mention in the USA TODAY All-Academic College Team, Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Scholar, Faculty-Student Scholar, Empire Minority Scholar, and a member of Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities. She presented a paper on telecommunication at the 24th Annual New York State Africana Studies Conference at SUNY Cortland in April 2001. She also served as the President of Golden Key International Honour Society and Vice-President of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. Azuka has been invited on numerous occasions to perform her poems both in the University and in the community. Her poem has appeared in A Prism of Thoughts.

Victoria Delaney, Program Director (Past)

Victoria Delaney, Program Director, Africa House

Victoria Delaney is a doctoral candidate in Philosophy, Interpretation and Culture at Binghamton University, New York. She has published articles on art such as, Still the Primitive?: Myth and Resistance of the Ethico-Spirito in African Representations,” Ijele Art eJournal of the African World, Issue 5 vol. 2, 2001. She has presented papers at major conferences on art, philosophy, and popular culture at San Diego, California, Interpretive Strategies and Eurocentric Implications: Material Culture, Theory and the Question of Western Philosophy, and Oneonta, New York. She co-chaired and curated the exhibition for the conference, Art, Culture and the Politics of Representation, and curated Women, Consciousness, and Political Positions: Y La Luche Sigue and wrote the exhibition catalogue, Multiple Exposure at the State University of New York at Oneonta. She has managed and curated exhibitions at the State University of New York at Oneonta, the Cooperstown Sports Art Gallery, Cooperstown, NY, and has worked at Gallery 53 in Cooperstown under the dynamic director Sydney Waller.

Meet the Intern

Seth Palmer (Summer 2008)

Seth PalmerSeth Palmer is an honors student at the State University of New York at Geneseo, where he is majoring in anthropology.  Currently, Seth’s academic interests lie in: Francophone Africa, genders and sexualities, identity and representation, post-colonial theory, reflexive and humanistic anthropology, and social justice.  Seth recently presented two papers entitled: “Framing Power: Visual Experiences in Colonial and Postcolonial Africa” and “Challenging Stigma: Gay Activist Movements and HIV/AIDS” at an undergraduate research symposium.   In the fall of 2008, Seth will begin his honors thesis on the fieldwork that Zora Neale Hurston conducted in the Caribbean in the mid-1930s.  Through this research, Seth hopes to investigate the intimate details of Hurston’s identity and methodology in the field.  Outside of classes, Seth is a member of the FACE AIDS organization that works to both fundraise for Partners In Health, and educate individuals about the HIV/AIDS crisis in both local and global contexts.  In the future, Seth hopes to pursue a PhD degree in anthropology or cultural studies.
