Biography of Towela Munthali Print E-mail
Thursday, 03 January 2008
Towela Munthali (Ma Pilling) was born in January 1979 in England to Malawian parents. She grew up in the evergreen Malawi then spent her late teens and early twenties in Botswana, desert country. The experience of two totally diverse environments provided her with a unique perspective on the common aspects of human nature, regardless of setting. Raised by academic parents, she developed a love of reading and was at an early age immersed in literature. She has a particular love for Jane Austen and Charles Dickens whose characters are so real one can never tire of meeting them again and again. It is this, characters, which she focuses on in her writing, aiming to express the ordinary and mundane in their lives, transforming it into something extraordinary and significant. The little boy who stubs his foot, the man that throws the stone in the mob, these are the important pieces of the puzzle that make up life. Towela has a BA in English and French and an MA in International Public Relations. She is married with one daughter and currently works for a charity in Wales.
