Sunday, 01 April 2007
An abstract on open source and academic journal publishing.

Open Source Restyled: The New Model for Academic Journal Publishing

Azuka Nzegwu

This paper will focus primarily on the utilization of freeware open-source technologies in academic publishing. The discovery of free software by journal editors is changing the type of knowledge produced, as well as creating a community of new and exciting content producers and publishers. The aim of this paper is twofold: the first is to discuss the development of open source tools for academic publishing, and the second is to examine the necessary specifications for developing and maintaining peer-reviewed electronic journals. I will analyze the primary requirements, protocols and standards necessary for creating an electronic academic journal and ensuring a successful venture.
