Love In The Trenches
|
 |
|
I couldn't love you
in broad daylight
with my hands
wrapped around my
red swollen lips,
calling your sweet name.
I couldn't see you
at the hour that my heart
desired, the minute
I felt your presence
lovingly, beside me.
I couldn't hold you
as I trembled for the
love my mother promised me
when she fed me melted
onions in her womb.
I couldn't love you,
couldn't see you,
couldn't hold you
in this lifetime
on my borrowed time,
but I did in the trenches. |
