A Footstep Away. . . . . . . . .
|

|
(For victims of land mines worldwide)
My eyes gleefully trailed the little child
Who danced, pranced and chased his precious prize
Across the open field with joyful pride
His golden smile like sensuous sunshine
Caressed the gloomy skies
Then, suddenly he stopped in mid-stride
Noticing the shiny toy
He stooped to pick it up and ka-boom!
A gentle shock to the soil a mighty thud
Shattering an atmosphere of calm
Striking terror into my fragile heart
Running, falling, blinded by a rain of tears
I stumbled to his mangled side
Alas! Another limb lost to a mine
Long after the scene of battle abates
There remains a sea of hate
Propagating man-made pain
Every breath, every step
A footstep away from death! |
