Let Me Be! Print
If I refuse to see reason
But choose unreasonable reason
If I refuse to be coerced
Into accepting a hoax
Let me be!

If I refuse to conform
But chose to reform
In speech not theoretical
But by choice a radical
Allow me be!

If views of the day
I refuse to uphold
In defiance of public opinion
I speak out bold
Just let me be!

If being an insufferable perfectionist
Makes me wilder than a warthog
Madder than a jilted old spinster
A restless spirit
Please let me be!

For I’ve seen a highway
Where many can’t see a bush path
I’ve seen a fountain
Where millions couldn’t see a trickle
I was born an original
Why die a fake!
